Sierra Nevada

Sierra Nevada, is located in the province of Granada and belongs to the set of Penibetic Cordilleras and is the highest mountain massif in Western Europe, after the Alps. Its maximum altitude is reached at the Mulhacén peak, 3,482 meters above sea level. In 1986 it was declared a Biosphere Reserve by UNESCO and in 1999 a large part of its territory was declared a National Park for its botanical, landscape and natural values.

Sierra Nevada Station


Sierra Nevada is the southernmost ski resort in Europe and the highest in Spain, located in the Sierra Nevada National Park.

Since 1985, its management has been carried out by the shareholders of CETURSA, the current managers, led by the Junta de Andalucía.

Since the celebration of the Alpine Ski World Championships in 1996, the most significant fact of the resort, placed it as one of the most important in Europe.

It has been the scene of numerous sporting events, both for the different ski modalities, as well as other sports: paragliding, athletics, cycling and mountain biking.

A curiosity of the resort is its former name: Solynieve Ski Resort, name already in disuse. This refers to the special conditions of this season, where the sun usually shines during the season providing all lovers of winter sports with perfect panoramic views and radiant days to enjoy a different day.

Ski Slopes


Sierra Nevada has 110 kilometres of signposted tracks and 21 lifts. Of the 128 available tracks, all of them distributed among 5 zones: Borreguiles, Montebajo, Laguna, Cauchiles and Río. In the season we can differentiate these by colors, being this their level of difficulty:

  • Green slopes: Very Easy 19 slopes
  • Blue slopes: Easy 43 slopes
  • Red slopes: Hard 52 slopes
  • Black slopes: Very Hard 7 slopes
  • Snowpark: 7 slopes

The station has a night service, where you can enjoy your winter sport in an unusual atmosphere in other stations on Thursdays and Saturdays from 19.00 to 22.00 hours.

Parking


Sierra Nevada has a total of 3907 parking spaces in private paid parking, which are the most comfortable and closest areas to the lifts to park. It also has blue parking areas in the urban area and other areas further away from the main points of free parking.

We recommend that you use the Cetursa car parking under the Plaza de Andalucía and park next to the exit of the Enebro building, which will take you to the stairs of the Gondola Borreguiles. Stairs up and turning right, you will find our equipment rental shop, next to the ski slopes. And it is located in the closest point to the ski slopes and Gondola entrance.

How to get to the Sierra Nevada Station?


The Sierra Nevada station is located approximately 40 km from the city of Granada on the A-395 road, with a duration of 30-40 minutes by car from the city.

It is possible to get to the station by bus, the journey time being approximately 1 hour. You can take this bus from the Granada Bus Station, located in Avenida de Juan Pablo II, Granada.

The cost per trip is 5€ and the bus schedule from Granada to Sierra Nevada during the ski season is as follows:

It is also possible to hire a transfer by van or private car from the nearest airports, Granada and Malaga. Or hire a rental car.

Weather in Sierra Nevada


Will the weather be good during my stay in the Sierra Nevada? Weather conditions are something that we must take into account when we practice mountain sports, as snowfall, wind and poor visibility will condition our equipment and coatings for sports, choice of masks or sunglasses or blinds and the choice of areas or others of the ski resort.

The ski resort of Sierra Nevada is characterized by the presence of sunshine during most of the season, except some days of fog, wind, snow and low clouds. There are few days to close the station due to adverse weather conditions, but as all forecasts are somewhat uncertain in the winter months (January - February - March).

Sierra Nevada is one of the ski resorts where it is important to get good advice on where to enjoy food, accommodation and other leisure activities. Prices can vary depending on the place or dates chosen, so we will provide you with a series of recommendations of very good value for money to save during your stay.

Regarding the choice of food in bars and restaurants the average is between 15-30 euros per person, including a main course, dessert and a drink. It is also possible to enjoy a menu, a delicious hamburger, sandwich or salad for less than 10€ per person. We know that food can be quite a costly expense if our stay at the station is several days, so it is always the cheapest option to take our sandwiches in a backpack to the slopes, where you can make a break in your adventure in the snow to eat something and recharge batteries.

With regard to accommodation, there are quite different price ranges depending on the area and in the case of hotels the number of stars in this. We can find accommodation at very low prices in youth hostels (20- 25 euros), as well as tourist rental apartments (variable price depending on low or high season), and hotels, in which the average prices are usually:

Sierra Nevada has numerous leisure and free time activities in a dream place, where besides being able to enjoy the ski resort, there is the possibility of enjoying unforgettable landscapes in the realization of hiking and trekking routes with unmatched panoramic views of the Sierra Nevada National Park. If you enjoy bicycle activities you can also have fun in the Sierra Nevada making suitable routes with bicycles in that environment.

What to do on your holidays besides enjoying the mountains?


Sierra Nevada Ski Station is just 40 kilometres from the city of Granada, a city with a special charm due to its most emblematic monument, the Alhambra, as well as its viewpoints where you can enjoy wonderful panoramic views with the arrival of the sunset. You will be able to taste its multitude of tapas, gastronomic reference of the city for an incredibly economic price. If you feel like sea and beach, you can enjoy the coasts of Granada about 100 kilometers from the station of Sierra Nevada, such as the beaches of Motril and Almuñécar as well as make a short getaway to the rocky coves near them.

We also have the possibility of enjoying the beaches of the province of Málaga, either of its beaches, or its cultural offer of monuments and museums 160 kilometers from the station (road A-92) and 280 kilometers (road A-92) approximately Seville, the capital of Seville, where we find known monuments such as the Giralda, Alcazaba, Torre del Oro and a good thermal sensation thanks to the passage of the Guadalquivir river.

The Sierra Nevada ski resort has almost a hundred bars, restaurants and pubs to accompany your day of skiing or snowboarding and enjoy the Aprés-Ski. As in all seasons, the price is somewhat higher than in the city of Granada, characterized by its economic gastronomic variety.

There is the possibility of enjoying a good lunch in the middle of the track. In the Borreguiles area you will find El Campanario, Borreguiles, Chiki Club and Nevasol restaurants, as well as the Genil restaurant in the vicinity of the Stadium chairlift. And if you want to eat or drink something almost without getting off the chairlift you have the kiosks located next to the lifts of La Laguna de las Yeguas and the Cliquot Nevada Terrace on the runway El Río.
